South Africa's cloud adoption is accelerating. Standard Bank, Nedbank, Vodacom, Discovery — every major enterprise is migrating to AWS. That means the demand for cloud-aware developers is outpacing supply. And the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification is the clearest signal you can put on your CV that you understand cloud fundamentals.
What the cert actually shows
The Cloud Practitioner isn't a deep technical cert — it's a foundation cert. It proves you understand the cloud model, the core AWS services, security principles, and cost management. That's exactly what hiring managers want junior developers to know before joining a cloud-first team.
The ROI is absurd
The exam costs around R1,800. Junior cloud roles in SA start at R25,000–R35,000 per month. If the cert helps you land a job two months faster, you've generated R50,000+ in additional income from an R1,800 investment.
"I had two applications rejected before I got certified. After I added 'AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner' to my CV, I got three interviews in one week."
